Bream bag limit

Postby takrat » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:17 pm

I'm sure this isn't the first time this has been bought up but I'm getting bloody tired of seeing people coming in with 20 plus Bream and/or Whiting just because the law says they can. If people can't show a bit of restraint it might be time to have the bag limit reduced and the under size limit increased. I honestly can't see the need for freezer filling and that's all it is when you cart home 20 bream. I saw it again the other day at the Fishery Creek boatramp, and I'm getting bloody tired of it.
End of rant.

Tackrat,

I'm with you, at this time of year it's fairly easy to get 20 bream
in quick time in certain locations at the lower end of the river.

Those beach haulers that have been working patches beach at night
don't give me that warm and fuzzy feeling either. "":(

Yeh Nip, It's all about greed as far as I can see and it's a throw back to those far off days when there were mobs of fish about. As we all know Bream are a slow growing animal, yet the law says you can take home 20 at a time. Wierd stuff. The bream I mentioned were taken off the beach, most of were still covered in sand. I managed to restrain myself, but I asked these blokes how many they had, the answer was; "dunno"

Yeah how often do you see a fisheries inspector along the beach ??

I reckon we need more inspectors to go around and get these people who flaunt the law and take whatever they catch!!! "":( "":( "":( "":( "":(

My 5 cents!!

Absolutly spot on Prof, imagine the hue and cry if they were allowed to pull over any car towing a boat or car bristling with rods. I bet they'd get some results though. In Queensland Fisheries and Waterways have been known to stake out the boat ramps. I put this matter up on the Ausbream website, it really opened a can of worms. Just because the law says you can it doesn't mean you have to. Be nice to leave a few for our kids and grandkids to catch. What the hell do you do with 20 fish of any kind? Most end up in the freezer or given to mates. Let 'em catch their own I say.

Things will never change why we have dinosaurs who think it's there god given right to kill what ever gets on there lines i hate fishing clubs that incur-age members to kill the biggest and the best for trophies this is bull shyt some clubs kill there bag limits for points so you can whack 20 bream, 10 flathead, 20 luderick and so on for point "":( "":( "":( "":( s for the day, time to start changing their ways and have catch and release for better points i have just refused to rejoin one club for this reason and i have never weigh in a fish in any of there events had a talk to president about changes but he seem not interested "":( "":( "":( this is there mentality bloody hell this P****s me of big time we have the GREENS pumping us to take our most fertile fishing grounds of us and we have dinosaurs that give them all the amo they need.
this is the reason i hate clubs but one club that is up there with CPR is Richmond Valley Sportfishing Club no points no bragging no killing (well if you want a feed you take home a feed) AND DEFERENTIALLY NO TROPHIES AT END OF YEAR and mostly lure fishing so you can go out and have fun with members and enjoy the day out with out the mentality of a moron, I'm sick of the people who still kill big flathead and nail there heads to trees what a f##en mob of wankers "":( "":( "":( i can go on and on with shyt some fishers do and yes i can put up my hand for catching bag limits of fish but that was a long time ago and blackfish was my targeted fish.
The problem with some clubs is the catch and grill mentality why catch all these fish at once where do you get rid of them do you eat or do you toss away after comp my bet is toss away, i will probably cop a bit of flak of this but i don't go on Ausfish any more as i once had my say about flathead killers with MAxi and some members gave me the stick over my morals and how i supported Evans Head Fishing Classic but as a fish mag writer and then living in Evans i think it is great for the town but i didn't support the kill section of the Classic and never have for that matter i hardly ever weigh in a fish in live section well said my peace i think most of our members know my feelings on clubs and the mentality of some fishers all we can do is drop suttle hints at fish cleaning bays and say do you really need all those fish

the fisheries guys have just done a couple of good busts up here with some grey nomads having freezers full of Barra,.The possesion limit is 3 Barra on the Daly or Mary river & 5 elsewhere .The greedy buggers reckon they have to justify the fuel bill,I say they are fishing for the wrong reason if thats their attitude.

Good response there blokes. Maxi I've seen that scenario first hand. These old farts (I'm 66) think that they can take whatever they like. I saw plenty of it in North Qld a couple of months back. They seem to think they are great blokes when they start sharing the catch around the camp ground too. Beats me... Squidgey I respect your support for the town mate, but I still can't see why a comp needs to go for 7 days. If that's all the town is hanging its future on, pretty soon there won't be any fish and then where will they be. Personally, and I'm sure you'll tell me if I'm wrong, more people will come there more often if the fishing was less concentrated. To be honest that comp has more to do with a few businesses making as much money as they can in as short as possible time. There's gotta be more to the future of Evans Head than a once a year fish "comp." Apart from the fact that I don't much care for comps the idea of sharing the place with over 1,000 people gives me claustraphobia. People don't want to speak out against the comp because rthey worry about the hostility factor.
