Mangrove jack in Clarrie Hall Dam ??

Hey guys was reading a report in the Northern Star today saying that they are going to stock Mangrove Jack into Clarrie Hall Dam ??? WTF

I personally think it is a crazy idea, although it's a great sports fish (of which I'm yet to catch ??) I think it would totally decimate the native species and upset the whole ecology of the dam??

What are your thoughts on this ??

hey stocked them in Awoonga and it didn't seem to bother anything,personally I recon its a good idea,the impoundment Jacks grow to epic proportions

yeah I like the idea, the poor mangrove jack cop such a thrashing from the "catch and kill" anglers in the tweed I think there population could do with a boost from upstream stocking! I recently renewed my fishing license and checked out the bag limit in the pamphlet they send ya,,,5 fish of any size. that's a joke! I'd guess that just like the barra of awonga first big down poor and they'd be out of there , as long as the breeding program can have good mixed bloodlines I think go for it . thanks for posting the news link

Clarrie is closed until May 2014 for some sort of dam wall extension
so the bass are living the easy life up there at the moment.

I think if they stock jack they should make sure there is enough bait
species in the dam to support the jacks otherwise every time bass
fingerlings are released in the dam they will become jack fodder.

They probably would survive. There's a breeding population of barra on the Gold Coast now thanks to the midnight stocking brigade, I can't imagine that the water temps would be that significantly different just south of the border. Captures of barra are pretty common up there and I've seen it with my own eyes
